Sports competitions, art activities and songs about the Vistula river were among the activities at this year’s May festival at the Polish school in Copenhagen.

In accordance with the tradition, the Polish May Festival was celebrated during the last weekend of May at the Polish school in Copenhagen. The celebration not only provided a good possibility for pupils, parents and teachers to meet in an informal atmosphere, but also to promote the school itself and its offer as regards Polish education for Poles living in Denmark. The program encompassed sports competitions, including an emotional football match between the parents and the pupils, art activities and meetings with outstanding people, among others a lifeguard, who presented the basic first aid rules and concentrated on safety at a seaside.

The May Festival was opened by youngest pupils performing songs about the Vistula river as 2017 was announced by the Polish parliament the Vistula River Year in commemoration of the 550th anniversary of the first free rafting on the “Queen of Polish rivers”.  Vistula river has become a symbol of Polish patriotism and an element of the Polish natural as well and cultural and historical heritage.
